R134a is one of the most common refrigerants used in a wide range of refrigeration and air conditioning applications, including medium and high temperature refrigeration (both domestic and commercial), residential & light air conditioning, automotive air conditioning and industrial applications such as centrifugal chillers. It is also a common component in many HFC refrigerant blends and is used in some propellant applications. Can be used as a retrofit in some R12 and R22 applications with an oil change. Low-GWP replacements include R1234yf, R1233zd, R1234ze.
It is used as a pure gas or as a component with other refrigerant gas mixtures in:
Comfort cooling in vehicles.
Medium temperature commercial refrigeration.
Refrigeration of transport equipment.
Commercial Refrigeration: Plug-ins & Vending Machines
Residential & Light Air Conditioning
Industrial / Commercial Air Conditioning DX Chillers
Industrial / Commercial Centrifugal Compressors
Mobile Air Conditioning
Product Features and Benefits
Substitute for R12, with comparable physical and thermodynamic properties
Refrigerant can be charged from either the liquid or vapor phase
PVCK refrigerant cylinders have dual port valves, making liquid offtake easier
Non-flammable with a safety classification of A1
Compressors must be charged with polyester oils, contact the compressor manufacturer for more information
Reduction of capacity compared to R12
Existing R12 equipment can be retrofitted with R134a
High critical temperature which ensures good coefficient of performance
